Managing Joint and Muscle Pain

December 1, 2012 by Andy Hosenfeld

Pain makes it impossible to enjoy everyday life. Between playing sports, lifting heavy materials, strenuous activity, arthritis and age, there’s no telling how many people are walking around today with joint and muscle pain. Luckily, there are ways to manage this pain and get back to doing the things you love most.

First, it is important to identify the different types of pain. There’s chronic pain (ongoing pain that persists for more than three months), acute pain (pain that comes on suddenly), stiffness, aches, and joint pain (specific joints can become inflamed and sore).

Joints connect your bones and provide support during movements. As such, healthy joints are crucial to maintaining a proper range of motion. However, joint pain is extremely common in those with old age or arthritis. In a recent national survey, about one-third of adults reported having joint pain within the past 30 days.

Muscles are an integral part of the body’s metabolism and strength. When a muscle is injured and causes the body pain, it can be very difficult to continue everyday tasks let alone exercise to maintain health.  Muscle pain can be brought on by a plethora of things, from improperly working out and tearing a muscle to tripping and straining a muscle.

There are a number of different approaches to deal with joint and muscle pain, such as physical therapy or chiropractic adjustments. Apple Health & Wellness has staff that is highly trained in each of these disciplines that can provide a number of solutions to alleviate joint and muscle pain.
