Lauren Oppizzi completed her master’s degree with concentration in Global Disaster Nursing, and afterwards, completed a post master’s certificate in the Family Nurse Practitioner program. She has a passion for functional medicine and in global health, and is currently getting her PhD in nursing at UTK with a research focus on the effect of physical activity on mental health in refugee women. She is also a board member and volunteers for Bridge Refugee Services, Inc.
For her first career, Lauren worked as a registered nurse at UT Medical Center in the Heart-Lung-Vascular Institute for seven years. Initially, she served on the vascular surgery and transplant unit, and later moved to working on multiple floors in the hospital. From 2014-2017, she worked as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Tennessee, teaching undergraduate nursing students in the clinical setting.
When she is not studying or working, she loves to spend time with close friends, family, and is an active member of Christ Church Knoxville. She enjoys being outside—whether hiking, laying in a hammock reading a book, looking at stars, or going on any new random adventures.
