Allergies

Spring is right around the corner which means that seasonal allergies are upon us! You may have already noticed some of the physical signs of allergies such as itchy or watery eyes, congestion, fatigue, sneezing, or sinus headaches.

Allergies affect over 60 million people each year and 55% of the U.S. population tests positive for one or more allergens. Allergies are especially present in children under 18. In households where both parents have one or more allergies, the children have a 70% chance of developing allergies.

However, here at Apple we have a solution!

We are partnered with Allergy 1.2.3, an allergy treatment program designed with patients in mind. Instead of coming into the office twice a week for costly allergy shots, the treatment serum can be administered at home on your schedule. Treatment is a simple three step process:

1-Test: One simple 15 minute test will identify 58 of the most common local allergens. This stage of treatment is obligation-free! You can test to find out what you are allergic to and then choose whether to go through with treatment or not.

2- Diagnose: Once we have your results we can determine which allergens are the worst. Possible patients eligible for allergy testing include those suffering from asthma**, chronic cough, sinusitis, as well as allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis patients.

3- Treat: Patients are taught to do self-injections with a small diabetic needle in our office under the supervision of our Nurse Practitioner. Then, after they are comfortable, they will receive enough serum to perform injections at increasing doses at 6 week intervals until maintenance dose is achieved. Patients self-administer subcutaneous doses 2 times a week for 18 months. After the 18 month program, the patient is retested. The goal of immunotherapy is to see a reduction of reaction with the test.

This program is immunotherapy at its best! Our team only uses the highest quality serum to ensure the best possible results. It is designed so that patients can continue to take a daily anti-histamine so that they will not suffer from allergy symptoms while their body is building up antibodies to the allergens. Also, because the patient only needs to see the nurse every six weeks, you are eliminating the costly copays that one would pay at an Allergist’s office.

This program is ideal for business travelers who cannot commit to an office-based immunotherapy schedule, children (5 and up) who cannot afford to miss school twice a week for shots, individuals living in rural areas where there is not an allergist, anyone who says they do not have the time or money for allergy treatments, or anyone who would like more information about what they are allergic to.

Allergy 1.2.3 is covered by most insurance providers and can be done right here in our office. Call us at 865.524.1234 (North) or 865.691.3155 (West) to schedule your allergy test today!

** Asthma patients must have their asthma under control to move forward with injections.
